FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Sience and Technology) is a non profit organization that was founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, to inspire students into science and technology and to show them how it can be fun, interesting and exciting just like other competitions. FIRST operates the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) where students build a robot in 6 weeks according to a specific game that is given every year by Dean Kamen and his crew. In the end of the 6 weeks the robot is sent to USA to inspection, the team meets the robot again in the competition event. The FIRST event is made of two parts: The regional event and the championship event. In the regional event your teams compete against or cooperate with other teams in your country/region. Each winner in the regional chairman's, engineering inspiration and first place alliance(3 teams) is given the opportunity of competing in the FIRST robotics championship in USA-Atlanta. The FRC building season starts in the beginning of January with the FRC's kickoff day. FIRST provides each team with kit of parts that is used to build the robot for this year's game the team has to work on the robot for 6 weeks, which is very short time. The teams have to work in an effective way to achieve the best robot design that is ready in time and is not passing the limits that are given in the day of the kickoff. |
